Sustainable Business
For over a decade, ITAC has assisted companies in reducing their environmental footprint while improving their bottom line. ITAC has used complementary approaches with clients: first, focusing on getting waste materials out of the dumpster and creating value by recycling; second, by applying Lean manufacturing.
ITAC’s goal is to help companies understand that environmental improvements and business growth go hand-in-hand:
- Reducing and recycling solid waste
- Reducing use of water
- Lowering energy use and cost
- Preventing pollution
Sustainable business strategies drive firms toward innovation and change — two attributes that all competitive businesses share. Change and innovation affect corporate culture, procedures, products, operations and outputs. All of a firm's outputs have a cost associated with them. In order to stay competitive, businesses need to minimize valueless outputs by reducing waste, increasing efficiency and generally learning how to do more with less.

Becoming a Sustainable Business
Firms can ensure long term viability despite the challenges of operating in the ever-changing NYC marketplace by examining financial, community and environmental impacts and setting goals for improvement in these areas. Implementing a systematic approach toward achieving these goals will also help a firm to continuously improve their processes, resulting in overall increase in efficiency and profitability.
Energy Savings
Competitive firms understand that reducing energy usage is a quick way to reduce overhead. Comprehensive energy assessments can indicate opportunities for efficiency improvements and result in strategies for firms to decrease their costs by decreasing energy usage. Energy efficient, or "green" building techniques can significantly reduce energy consumption. Frequently, public funding exists to offset the costs associated with energy efficiency improvements.
Facility and Operational Assessment
All of a firm's outputs have costs associated with them. In order to retain their competitive edge, firms need to eliminate, or at least minimize outputs that have no value to the customer. A comprehensive assessment of a firm's facility and operations can indicate outputs that are not associated with the final product and point out opportunities for decreasing waste and increasing efficiency.
